Harvesting Nature’s Delights

Gielen Family Farm

Why we do what we do

Welcome to our small, family-owned farm nestled in the picturesque town of Motukarara, New Zealand. At our farm, we don’t just cultivate crops and raise animals – we nurture dreams. Our vision is to create a self-sustainable farm that harmoniously coexists with nature, providing wholesome products for our community while preserving the beauty of our surroundings.

Nature is our partner, and we reciprocate by nurturing it. Every year, we plant native trees to enrich our farm’s biodiversity, providing a haven for birds, insects, and wildlife. We practice poly culture, harnessing the power of diverse crops and animals working together in harmony. This approach not only enhances the health of our farm but also contributes to the resilience of our ecosystem.

As a family-oriented farm, our two little ones eagerly join us in tending to the animals, nurturing the land, and learning about the wonders of nature. Their enthusiasm reminds us daily of the importance of passing down knowledge, fostering a connection to the earth, and cultivating a sustainable future.

Diverse offerings

At our farm, we specialise in breeding Saddleback pigs, known for their exceptional quality and gentle temperament. These remarkable creatures bring joy to our farm and provide us with delicious, ethically-raised pork. We take pride in ensuring our pigs have the best possible lives, allowing them to roam freely in spacious, natural environments.

Our farm doesn’t stop there – we have a sweet connection with nature’s tiny heroes, bees. We extract honey, not only for ourselves but also for fellow beekeepers and hobbyists who share our love for these incredible pollinators. Our honey is a true labour of love, created by the bees from the nectar of flowers in our diverse landscape.

To celebrate the wonders of honeydew honey, we craft a range of delightful products that showcase its unique flavours and health benefits. We produce delicious cordials, spreads and ‘Angry Honey’.

Meet The Gielens

The farm is a true family affair

Ode Gielen

Ode Gielen

Busy as a bee, Ode will not sit still for more than 5 minutes at a time (and that would only be if he has his favourite mocha in front of him). Master of many trades, he loves getting his hands dirty on the farm. Whether it is fencing, building pig runs, planting trees, tending to bees or figuring out which tool to buy next – Ode loves working the farm.

Stacey

Stacey Gielen

Stacey is the bee’s knees when it comes to hard work. Always on the go, she thrives behind the scenes, ensuring everything runs smoothly while embracing the joy of making a difference in the lives of those she loves.

Tara

Tara Gielen

Tara is our forever puppy who knows all the good spots to bury a bone without anyone noticing. Not much of a farm dog, she nevertheless loves being involved and helping in her own way. Never the one to turn down a scratch, Tara would be the one greeting you first when you come to our farm!

Our children

Young Farmers

We have two little ones who are always super excited to go outside and see what mischief the pigs got into. Our little girl knows pigs’ favourite food, which paddock the cows are in, and that honeydew is her favourite honey. While our little man is still practising his sitting up skills, in no time he’ll be the one mowing the lawns.
